It’s a topic that will never go away, because we may never come to it in our life time – The End.
The end of time, the end of the world. The end as you and I know it. It’s poetic and it’s exhilarating. The concept brings with it imagery that would suggest the fantastic. It implores you to throw your common mind away, and accept a reality no one had the foresight to prepare you for.
What is the end? What does it mean? Is it possible for the end to come, and then something exist afterward? But most importantly, “How will YOU know the end is here?” Here are a few signs that may indicate the end is much nearer than you think.
1. Israel Will Become A Nation Again
It’s generally accepted that Jesus gave an indicator as to his return in Matthew 24. He’s telling his disciples about all the things the earth will be experiencing upon his return. One of those things is the fact that Israel will become a nation again.
“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door. Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.
When the Jewish people were dispersed it didn’t look like they would ever get their homeland back, but that all changed on May 14, 1948 when the state of Israel was born.
This single event started the end time clock.
2. Implantable Microchips
One of the most ominous aspects of “The End Times” is that the person known as the Antichrist, will implement a Mark that everyone will be forced to take in order to conduct business.
Revelation 13:16-17 Says,
“And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
But what would it look like? A tattoo?
Today it seems the most obvious answer is an implantable microchip. Multiple companies are now making these chips that are the size of a grain of rice. All your medical, and banking information is stored on it, and now some companies are beginning to offer it to their employees in place of key fobs.
3. & 4. Information Explosion, And Ease of Travel
The Old Testament book of Daniel contains many deep and profound mysteries about the end of time. Daniel saw the end itself and was told by an angel to roll up the scroll he writing everything on, that it would be sealed until the end when,
“Many will travel everywhere, and knowledge will grow.”
During Daniel’s lifetime, no one traveled except traders. It was nowhere near like we experience today. Now with modern air travel we can be ANYWHERE on the planet in no more than 12 hours.
Information is exploding. Computing power is doubling annually. And according to an IBM white paper, the build out of the “internet of things” will lead to the doubling of knowledge every 12 hours.
5. persecution of Christians
The persecution of believers is clearly laid out by Jesus in Matthew 24. He gives his disciples, and in effect all future believers of things to look out for that would signal his return. One of them is being persecuted because they call on the name of Jesus.
Matthew 24:9 says,
“Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.”
It’s easy to exist in a bubble in America particular. The closest thing we have to persecution is that someone maks fun of you on Facebook because you say you believe in Jesus or even God. But in the rest of the world, dying for your faith in Jesus Christ is a very real thing.
According to Open Doors USA, North Korea is the most dangerous country in the world to live in if you’re Christian.
In fact, in an interview with Vatican Radio, Introvigne, the founder of the independent Center for Studies on New Religions based in Turin, Italy, revealed that 2016 was the deadliest year ever for believers. According to their research, 90,000 people died in martyrdom for the Kingdom of God.
Continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in the faith around the world.
6. Many Will Turn away from the Faith
Matthew 24:10 says,
“At that time many will turn away from the faith”
It’s never been more popular to not be a Christian. We live in an interesting time period where every belief under the sun is accepted and treated as equal, regardless of how bizarre it actually is. That is unless you call yourself a Christian, then you’re a raving lunatic who doesn’t deserve any rights whatsoever.
In 2014, a Pew Religious Landscape survey reported that as of 2014, 22.8% of the U.S. population claims no spiritual affiliation, no religion whatsoever.
That same study showed that 70% of the population, claims to be Christian. There’s no way to tell if these are committed Christians, or people who may only attend once or twice a year, and wouldn’t say they’re atheist or agnostic, but don’t feel a strong need to be part of a church either.
7. Natural Disasters and Earthquakes
This is a popular one, along with “Wars and rumors of wars” Matthew 24:7-8 tells us,
“Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
A debate that takes place every time after a major earthquake is whether or not they’re actually increasing in frequency, or we just notice more of them because the internet keeps us aware of everything.
For a myriad of reasons, yes, earthquakes are increasing. Man kind is certainly contributing these statistics with fracking, and all other sorts of drilling. Scripture doesn’t get into splitting hairs over whether of not these earthquakes would be ‘natural’ or not, or whether there seems to be more because as knowledge is increasing, we’re more aware of everything that’s happening on the planet.
8. The Gospel Being Preached To All Nations
Matthew 24:14 says,
“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
Maybe the last and most important thing that needs to have taken place is every people group on planet earth will be reached. The Father is kind, just, and fair, and everyone must have an opportunity to accept or reject Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The International Mission Board has identified over 3,000 unique people groups that have not been reached YET. The Gospel has been translated into 2,212 of the worlds 6,500 known languages. Missionaries need funding to reach all of these people and resources to translate the Gospel into these languages so the entire planet will have chance to receive Christ as their savior.
