UN Says Eating Less Meat Will Save The Planet

This isn’t satire… I wish it were.

No, this is very real. Today, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released a summary report with many suggestions as to how to combat climate change: including telling people to stop eating meat.

We don’t want to tell people what to eat,” says Hans-Otto Pörtner, an ecologist who co-chairs the IPCC’s working group on impacts, adaptation and vulnerability. “But it would indeed be beneficial, for both climate and human health, if people in many rich countries consumed less meat, and if politics would create appropriate incentives to that effect.”

You catch that? “I don’t want to tell you what to eat… but I want the government to dictate what you eat.”

No way, man. No. Way.

Imagine a world without steak. Or bacon. Or bacon cheeseburgers. Or… the list goes on, and on. The point is, meat is good. God wouldn’t have made chicken taste so good if He didn’t want me to eat them.

The problem isn’t the meat. The problem is the deforestation associated with factory farming to provide the meat. THAT is what the focus should be on. Not my love for a steaming hot patty in between two sesame seed buns.

This wouldn’t have been an issue had Hans not said the government should “create appropriate incentives,” but he did. Some unelected guy on a board of countries that don’t impact my life are going to try and convince the world to eat less meat. That’s going to be a hard no from me, Hans.
