As leader of the free world, President Trump keeps a very busy schedule. With all the recent tragedies our nation has experienced in the past month and a half, that schedule has become even more full.
President Trump just visited Las Vegas to personally meet with some of the shooting victims. He met one man in particular that should make everyone stand up and take notice.
There’s a trend in this country that encourages taking a knee, sitting down, and refusing to give honor. When Thomas Gunderson, who was shot in the leg in the Las Vegas shooting, heard that President Trump himself was coming to visit him, he KNEW he wasn’t going to let a little thing like a gunshot wound get in his way of showing honor.
Gunderson wrote in a Facebook post,
“I will never lie down when the President of this great country comes to shake my hand! There may be plenty of issues in this country but I will always respect my country, my president and my flag. Shot in the leg or not, I will stand to show my President the respect he deserves!”
This is a true American. Everyone would have given Gunderson a pass if he didn’t stand to shake the President’s hand. No one would have thought otherwise.
He was first greeted by First Lady, Melania Trump,
“Hi, Thomas. How are you? No, don’t get up. Don’t get up,”
He respectfully didn’t listen to her. He knew he had to stand to meet the leader of the Free World.
Then President Trump himself walked in. He knew Thomas was mustering all the strength and composure he had to stand,
“Hey, this guy looks tough to me,”
There’s a missing element of honor in today’s society, and it’s left a huge hole. You may not agree with everything President Trump has done so far, and you may not feel like honoring him as a man, but we should honor the office which he holds. We should honor the flag. We should honor our troops.
Our country is far from perfect, but dishonoring the role of the President, and the troops, and our flag, brings shame to the values we stand for and uphold.
There’s a reason why so many immigrants want to come here to make a better life for themselves and their families. just the image of the American flag inspires hope and possibility in the minds of foreigners who didn’t have the privilege of being born here.
The Apostle Paul knew about honor himself and wrote in the book of Romans chapter 13, verse 7:
“Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”
The President deserves your honor.
Our service men and women deserve our honor.
Old Glory deserves our honor.
Thank you, Thomas Gunderson, for displaying it so epically for the world to see!
