These Republicans Just Voted To Give Amnesty To Illegal Agricultural Workers

Yesterday the House passed the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (HR 5038), but you wouldn’t know that due to impeachment hearings.

Yes, the democrats have done a great job distracting us all as they pass legislation granting amnesty to illegal immigrants who spend at least 180 days in the last two years working on a farm.

The Heritage Foundation summarizes the bill as follows:

The Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 5038) is foremost an illegal immigration bill that would provide amnesty for millions of illegal agricultural workers—and their spouses and children. Illegal agricultural workers would be able to secure “certified agricultural worker status” and a pathway to citizenship. This amnesty threatens the legal immigration system’s legitimacy and incentivizes aliens and farmers to ignore the legal immigration system in the future if it best serves their needs. There may be problems with the H-2A temporary agricultural worker program. However, the solution is to solve the problems with this program, not to pass an amnesty law that would bless the actions of aliens and agricultural employers who have ignored the law altogether.

While it’s no surprise that all but three democrats supported the bill, it’s shocking to see that 34 republicans support giving amnesty to illegal immigrants who bypass the legal system to go work as cheap labor for farmers.

The Republicans who supported the bill are:

Amodei (NV) Baird (IN) Bost (IL) Brooks (IN) Cole (OK) Cook (CA) Davis, Rodney (IL) Diaz-Balart (FL) Fitzpatrick (PA) Fulcher (ID) Herrera Beutler (WA) Hurd (TX) Joyce (OH) King (NY) Kinzinger (IL) LaMalfa (CA) McKinley (WV) Mitchell (MI) Newhouse (WA) Nunes (CA) Reed (IL) Rodgers (WA) Shimkus (IL) Simpson (ID) Smith (NJ) Smucker (PA) Stefanik (NY) Stivers (OH) Thompson (PA) Tipton (CO) Upton (MI) Walden (OR) Young (AK)

You’ll notice that the majority of these so-called republican representatives are from states with huge agricultural sectors. Passage of this bill might appease the farmers intent on hiring cheap non-American labor, but it doesn’t help Americans (aside from the people who donated to these republicans).

Remember this come 2020 when these people try to tell you that they are “America First”. Clearly, they are not.
