Neil DeGrasse Tyson Leaves Colbert Speechless, Says Trump Was Right About One Thing

Ever since his announcement, late night television hosts have been mocking president Trump for his wanting to have a separate branch of the military devoted to outer space.

“Space Force” has been used as a point of ridicule, but according to renowned astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson, “Space Force” is actually a pretty good idea!

While on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Tyson was asked about his opinion in regards to this supposedly ridiculous military branch.

“Many people are thinking that we didn’t have a ‘space force’ before, and now we’re going to have a ‘space force'” he said. “We have a ‘space force’, and it’s called the ‘United States Space Command’, and it’s under the auspicious of the Air Force.”

“The Air Force put GPS satellites into orbit around the earth!”

Colbert, who seemed a bit confused, asked “you mean NASA didn’t do that?”

“Air Force did it,” Tyson replied. “Because it was a military project.”

Not wanting to seem wrong, Colbert asserted that it was the word FORCE, in “Space Force,” that made the president’s idea silly.

“If you call it a space force, you’re innately embracing the idea of space war,” said the once upon a time funnyman. “Isn’t the promise of the future in space that we have peaceful frontiers.”

Tyson was sure to set the record straight, making Colbert aware of the fact that around the world it is understood that country’s are within their right to defend their assets that are in space.

“There’s a grey area in there that allows you to defend your space assets,” Tyson said. “Suppose I have a laser, and you’re coming at me with your bad satellite, and I take you out, that’s defensive.”

Throughout the conversation Colbert tried to put Neil in a corner by making absurd arguments about the unlikelihood of “satellites fighting each other.” Fortunately, Tyson was patient with his host and spoke in small words Colbert’s audience would understand.

“You wouldn’t want to do that,” Tyson said, referring to the idea of blowing up another country’s satellite. “Because each bit suddenly becomes a projectile!”

While the talking heads keep making fun of Trump, the fact of the matter is they don’t even know what they are talking about.
