Representative Elijah Cummings, the House Democrat from Baltimore who has spent the last three years criticizing the president, died Thursday morning from health complications.
Cummings served as the chair of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, and being one of the most powerful democrats in D.C., he played a huge role in the impeachment efforts against Donald Trump.
“He worked until his last breath because he believed our democracy was the highest and best expression of our collective humanity,” his wife, Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, said Thursday.
Now, just how hard he was working up until that point is up for debate. There’s still questions surrounding the billions of dollars of federal aid to Cummings district that “disappeared”.
Cummings had made headlines in recent months due to him being insulted that the president would call Baltimore “rat infested” (a subject of the documentary “Rat Film”). Of course, Baltimore was also the setting of the hit drug and crime show “The Wire”… But again, Cummings and other democrats had been offended that the problems were diagnosed…
This comes from Maryland Democrats:

Even republicans are sending their condolences to the one-time Civil Rights icon. “The news that our friend and colleague Elijah Cummings has passed away marks a sad day for the members of the United States Congress, the people of Baltimore, and the entire nation,” said House GOP Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney.
We could argue over Cummings record until we turn blue in the face, but this isn’t the time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Rep. Cummings, and all those who cared for him.
Rest in peace.
