After leaving office following his two terms, president George W. Bush has kept relatively quiet.
During the years of the Obama presidency, Bush refrained from engaging in any sort of political activism, aside from the occasional speaking engagement. Now that Trump is in office, it appears all former living presidents feel the need to speak their mind in regards to the current administration.
During his visit on the Today Show, Bush opened up about Trump’s statements directed at the media being “the enemy of the people.”
“I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy,” Bush said. “We need an independent media to hold people like me to account.”
“Power can be very addictive and it can be corrosive and it’s important for the media to call to account people who abuse power, whether it be here or elsewhere.”
When pressed on the topic of a “free press”, Bush said that he believes it’s the president’s job to encourage the rest of the world leaders to follow America’s example.
“It’s kind of hard to tell others to have an independent free press when we’re not willing to have one ourselves.”
Here’s the thing: Trump never said “the media is the enemy of the people”. Main-stream media outlets like to tell this lie to pain Trump as a dictator, but the fact is he never said it.
What they are doing is pointing to a tweet that Trump posted in which he called the “FAKE NEWS media” the enemy of the people. Perhaps they don’t see the irony in creating “fake news” after being called “fake news”.
Rather than being responsible journalists, they continue to propagate lies, and their sheep-like viewers simply eat it up. They’ve been bamboozled into believing everything they say is the truth, regardless of what the facts say.
Even George W. Bush is guilty of falling for the MSM narrative, when the truth is merely a few clicks away.
The media has always been critical of our nation’s leaders, but they haven’t gone out of their way to fabricate outrage. If those in the media want to be taken serious then they need to make sure they are publishing the truth, and not garbage intended to create even more division.
