Drug Cartel Opens Fire On U.S. Border Patrol Agents

The immigration crisis has taken center stage when it comes to talks about border security, and perhaps that’s why most were unaware of the recent attack against U.S. Border Patrol agents.

On Friday, members of the Gulf Cartel brandishing automatic weapons opened fire on border patrol boats outside of Fronton, Texas.

Mexican authorities were notified of the attack, and responded to the area where the shooting occurred. While no arrests were made, Mexican authorities did find “signs of activity”.

The U.S. Border Patrol issued the following statement:

“Early this morning, agents assigned to the Rio Grande City Station Marine Unit patrolling near Fronton, Texas, reported they were fired upon from the Mexican riverbank. Agents saw four subjects with automatic weapons who shot over 50 rounds at them. The boat was hit several times but no one on board was injured.”

This is becoming more and more common in this part of the country. The Rio Grande Valley is a hotbed for human and drug smuggling, and too often innocent people end up losing their lives.
