Although the United States is home to millions upon millions of gun owners, the CEO of Dicks is not interested in their money.
While big retail chains have removed firearms and ammo from their shelves, gun sales have gone up. It would appear their virtue signaling is good news for ammo supply stores.
During an interview with CBS News on Sunday, Ed Stack said that the unsold firearms were turned into scrap metal.
“I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them.'”
Dicks had stopped selling “assault rifles” following the 2018 shooting in Parkland, Florida. The shooter had apparently used a weapon that was purchased at a Dicks location.
“We found out that we sold this kid a shotgun,” Stack said. “That’s when I said, ‘We’re done.'”
Note: they stopped selling “assault rifles”, but Stack said the kid bought a shotgun…
Dicks is hardly the only store trying to end gun sales. Walmart has announced it will end selling handgun ammo, and will stop selling handguns entirely in certain locations.
