A 37-year-old Detroit educator and Arab community activist was released after being charged with performing criminal sexual acts on one of his mentally disabled students, and, shocker, he has ties to a handful of democrats.
Ibrahim Aljahim was released on a $1,000 bond and was forced to surrender his passport. According to Wayne County prosecutors, Aljahim was “in a position of authority over the victim.” The victim has remained unnamed for obvious reasons, but the fact that Aljahim took advantage of one of his students, especially one with mental disabilities is just sickening.
According to WDIV-TV, the student told authorities that Aljahim made him perform the act in the educator’s car outside the school. Police also found security camera footage showing Aljahim leaving the school with the student and returning 20 minutes later. Three other students said the victim told them Aljahim sexually assaulted him.
As reported by Pluralist, Aljahim served as a student liaison for Oakland International Academy in Hamtramck, a city within Detroit where he also lives. He has been active in Democratic politics and Arab- and Yemini-American advocacy and has often been quoted in the local media on issues related to Hamtramck’s sizable Arab and Muslim population.
“We obviously are very saddened and shocked by this allegation and it’s something that we don’t want our image to be associated with,” the school’s principal Larry Cowger told the Detroit Free Press. “He is someone who is well-known in the community, has a lot of connections. He was hired because of that, so that he could be a go-between to forge better partnerships.”

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon also told WDIV he was “stunned” by the “extremely serious” allegations, after terminating Aljahim as a chaplain for the office.
According to The Free Press, Aljahim had worked as a public relations officer for the American Human Rights Council, an Arab American civil rights group in Dearborn. As well, his social media is littered with pictures of himself posing with prominent democratic figures like Hillary Clinton, whose 2016 presidential campaign he volunteered for, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Reps. Debbie Dingel and Andy Levin of Michigan, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and State Rep. Issac Robinson.
And even with this extremely serious charges against him, the democratic activist seems unbothered on social media. Less than a week after being chagred, Aljahim posted a Facebook Live video of himself supporting Bernie Sanders at campaign rally.
Maybe he thinks he did nothing wrong and will hopefully get a rude awakening at his next hearing on Thursday, or maybe he knows he will be fine because of all of those democratic hands he’s shaken over the years. We will have to wait and see, but hopefully this monster is put away for a long time.
