Democrats have been out to get Brett Kavanaugh since the moment it was revealed that he was Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court.
When Kavanaugh’s name was announced back in July that he would take Justice Kennedy’s spot Democrats had already started smearing Judge Kavanaugh with “fill in the blank” letters to constituents, making it known that they had already decided whoever was picked was going to face the #resistance.
Emails and images with the wrong name and face were published, but nobody on the left seemed to care. In their minds there was nothing off limits when it came to taking down someone nominated by the current president.
Once the Senate Judiciary Committee had done its job, and found no reason Brett Kavanaugh shouldn’t be on the nation’s highest court, out of nowhere accusations came out that in 1982 Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted a young woman.
In today’s hyper-partisan world of politics we tend to believe what sounds good to us. The up-talking story delivered by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford was all Democrats needed to hear to convict Judge Kavanaugh. Never mind that she couldn’t recall when it happened, or who was there, or where the alleged assault took place. Never mind she didn’t know how she got there, or how she got home, but was able to definitively recall she had “one beer.” In their minds (which had already been made up) her story was all they needed to hear to determine Kavanaugh’s guilt.
During his opening statement Kavanaugh ripped into Democrat Senators who have done their best to make his life a living hell. While all is fair in love, war, and politics, there’s something twisted about ruining a man’s life over a story that people like Dianne Feinstein sat on or nearly two months, only to bring it up days before Kavanaugh was to be confirmed.
An impassioned Kavanaugh stated that “All four people allegedly at the event, including Dr. Ford’s longtime friend, Ms. Keyser, have said they recall no such event,” but as expected, these words seemed to fall on deaf ears. The left sees no reason to have facts stop their ultimate goal of blocking this appointment.
Kavanaugh then brought up the fact that he called for a hearing immediately following the accusations, but of course that wouldn’t have given Democrats enough time to publicly tar and feather him. “The day after the allegation appeared, I told this committee that I wanted a hearing as soon as possible to clear my name,” he stated. “I demanded a hearing for the very next day. Unfortunately, it took the committee 10 days to get to this hearing. In those 10 long days, as was predictable, and as I predicted, my family and my name have been totally and permanently destroyed by vicious and false additional accusations. The 10-day delay has been harmful to me and my family, to the Supreme Court and to the country.”
“This confirmation process has become a national disgrace. The Constitution gives the Senate an important role in the confirmation process, but you have replaced advice and consent with search and destroy. Since my nomination in July, there’s been a frenzy on the left to come up with something, anything to block my confirmation. Shortly after I was nominated, the Democratic Senate leader said he would, quote, ‘oppose me with everything he’s got.’A Democratic senator on this committee publicly — publicly referred to me as evil — evil. Think about that word. It’s said that those who supported me were, quote, ‘complicit in evil.’ Another Democratic senator on this committee said, quote, ‘Judge Kavanaugh is your worst nightmare.’ A former head of the Democratic National Committee said, quote, ‘Judge Kavanaugh will threaten the lives of millions of Americans for decades to come.'”
While much of the media’s focus has been on Ford’s claims of receiving violent threats, the threats towards the Kavanaugh family have gone grossly unreported.
Kavanaugh continued calling out members of the DNC for holding these allegations back until they were needed. “Some of you were lying in wait and had it ready,” he said. “This first allegation was held in secret for weeks by a Democratic member of this committee, and by staff. It would be needed only if you couldn’t take me out on the merits.”
“After I’ve been in the public arena for 26 years without even a hint — a whiff — of an allegation like this. And when my nomination to the Supreme Court was just about to be voted on, at a time when I’m called ‘evil’ by a Democratic member of this committee, while Democratic opponents of my nomination say people will die if I am confirmed.”
After railing against the Democrats for calling him “evil” on numerous occasions, Kavanaugh turned the attention on his accuser in a way that nobody could’ve seen coming. While it would make sense for him to be angry, he stated that his family has “no ill will” towards Dr. Ford, and that his family has been praying for the woman who said she was assaulted.
“I intend no ill will to Dr. Ford and her family,” Kvanaugh said while holding back tears. “The other night, Ashley and my daughter, Liza, said their prayers. And little Liza — all of 10 years old — said to Ashley, ‘We should pray for the woman.’ It’s a lot of wisdom from a 10-year old. We mean — we mean no ill will.”
In America we are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Too much is at stake to believe allegations that have little to no fact supporting them. As a judge, Brett Kavanaugh understands this which makes his frustration totally justified. Sadly, Democrats have no intention of ending the smear campaign against him, or anyone in the future that is nominated by the current president.
Pray for everyone involved.
