House Speaker Nancy Pelosi boldly proclaimed that she is a devout Catholic during yesterday’s press conference on impeachment, and naturally people had very emotional responses to this claim.
Although she says she’s a Catholic, Nancy Pelosi supports abortion, something that Catholics (and all Christian denominations) see as a huge “no-no”. A few months ago Joe Biden was denied Holy Communion by a priest for his public stance on abortion.
Now, Jesus says in Matthew 7-
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Most Christians have not voted for or supported abortion. The Bible says you will be judged for the same things you judge others over. If you judge Nancy Pelosi for supporting abortion, and you are pro-life, you’re in the right. People like twisting the Bible around to fit what they want to believe, but Jesus says it right there that you aren’t to judge others for doing the same thing you are doing. Most believers are not in favor of abortion, and a lot are active in the “pro-life” movement.
While some believe that, having been baptized as a Catholic, Nancy is in good standing with the church:
Re #NancyPelosi: She's baptized as a Catholic. Therefore, she's Catholic. I would say the same for a Democrat or Republican; conservative or liberal; progressive or traditionalist. As the Catechism says, the seal of baptism is "indelible." "No sin can erase this mark" (#1272). — James Martin, SJ (@JamesMartinSJ) December 5, 2019
Others are quite critical of the House Speaker, such as Catholic writer Tasha Rose of Radical Mothering.
“It’s really problematic for her to say something like that,” Rose said of Pelosi’s claim that being Catholic makes her incapable of hatred. “We aren’t ‘incapable of hating’… Saying she’s opposed to hating goes against the human condition.”
Tasha explains that hating one another is a result of “the fall”, and says, unfortunately, “no one is above the ability to hate.”

Catholics on Twitter called out Pelosi for her stance on abortion as well. Seems that many are offended she claims to be a “devout” believer.
Nancy Pelosi is *so* Catholic she votes to fund the killing of +11 million unborn children in the United States per-year with your and my tax dollars. Very Christian. — Benny (@bennyjohnson) December 5, 2019
As a Catholic, I can understand objectively why people are critical of Catholics when some of our most prominent examples of the faith are Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Pope Francis — Jack Posobiec 🇺🇸 (@JackPosobiec) December 5, 2019
Nancy Pelosi uses her Catholic faith to convince us she doesn't hate anyone. Meanwhile, she ignores her Catholic faith on abortion. 'They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good.'~Titus 1:16 https://t.co/9hUkeryIyD — Jessie Jane Duff (@JessieJaneDuff) December 6, 2019
As a Catholic, Nancy Pelosi is cool with killing the unborn early and often, putting liars as committee chairs and supporting the antisemitism of the squad. I grew up Catholic.. I wasn't taught that stuff. — Joe Pags Pagliarulo (@JoeTalkShow) December 5, 2019
"Don't mess with me!" says Nancy #Pelosi. Someone ask her what her oh-so-deeply-held religious beliefs say about #abortion – let alone abortion moments before birth, ok? Thanks. Dems only invoke #God when he's convenient. #Catholic #CatholicChurch… https://t.co/90nRTWNIDX — Herman Cain (@THEHermanCain) December 5, 2019
Perhaps it would have been better for Mrs. Pelosi to have simply said “yes, this whole thing is political,” instead of trying to drag the Catholic church into this mess.
